Are you a UK DJ who wants to convert your CD collection to MP3s so that you can play them using your laptop or other dedicated MP3 playback device? If the answer is yes, then you will need the PPL Digital DJ Licence.
The PPL Digital DJ Licence is the first licence of its kind that allows UK DJs to convert their existing, legally purchased CDs, to a digital audio format and store them on their hard drive or dedicated MP3 playback device. They are allowed to play these digital audio files on their laptop or other dedicated MP3 playback device to the public.
Without this Licence you are breaking UK Copyright Law if you convert a CD or any other format to MP3 or other digital audio formats and perform in front of the public. You will face a fine or possibly worse if you are caught DJing at a venue without this Licence.
What does it cost?
The licence currently costs £200 + VAT and is an annual fee. DMC are agents of PPL and can sell you the PPL Digital DJ Licence. You can pay with your credit/debit card. Click here to purchase your PPL Digital DJ Licence
Who doesn't need this Licence?
A DJ using traditional CD's, records, cassettes, DVD's, videos who does not then wish to dub his music to a hard drive or other dedicated MP3 playback device is exempt from this Licence. A DJ who uses legally purchased digital downloads does need this License unless it is for personal use only. Read More
